MIRACLE CHILD (SHORT STORY -  4)

My fourth child is a miracle child. At the age of 10 months he had a terrifying accident. It happened so fast; when I was frying a fish. He was standing near me and was looking up at me when suddenly the hot oil splashed onto his face. A few drops of oil fell onto his face and unknowingly into his eye too. Ooo dear, he cried and I, being in a state of shock quickly grabbed   him and took him to the clinic. I couldn't imagine my cute little baby being scalded in the face.

I asked the doctor if it would leave scars on his face. He said that maybe it would. He applied medicated cream and asked me to go to the nearest hospital because the hot oil got his eye.

My child was admitted for ten days. I couldn't really sleep all through the terrifying ten days worrying what would be of my child. I cried and prayed that Allah would help my child. I thanked Allah and prayed harder when the doctor said that my child was lucky that the lens was not touched by the hot oil. The doctor said that it was a miracle. My child would have been blind. Only Allah knew how I felt. Thankful, relieved and sad, all in one. If anything were to happen to his eye, I would not be able to forgive myself.

I told my children that there would be no more fried dishes until I am able to get over the trauma. Something good did turn out. My children took care of my miracle child whenever I start to cook because they could not eat without fried dishes especially fried fish and chicken.

After that incident I began to understand that  there is nothing  we as humans can do, but to leave everything to Allah. Only Allah can realize our doa and hopes. Allah knows best. So, pray and keep hoping that Allah will fulfill our doa. Never give up if our prayers are not answered because only God knows the most appropriate moment to answer our prayers; and when that happens, it is always the right moment.
